It indeed sounds like a really weird approach from open Xchange. One cannot even argue this is driven by the will to lower investment as i suspect such an extension will probably require à signifiant effort…
I think opensource projects really are the ones driving innovation and pushing for adoption.
Any new communication / collaboration suite would for sure turn it’s back to IMAP and implement JMAP instead, just like open-paas.org did by add JMAP support to apache James.
